Seeing a need to help the cats in our community, we formed our 501(c)(3) organization in 1981 to provide solutions. We've helped thousands of cats and kittens since our inception with the help of all our awesome volunteers in the community.
We focus on helping stray and abandoned animals, especially cats, by offering valuable resources to cats and their guardians in our community. Our fosters help prepare friendly, rescued cats and kittens for adoption into loving homes. We provide resources to residents and other rescues, and practice humane trap/neuter/return (TNR) of feral cats. We support several colonies of community cats in Muncie
AFA's dedicated team of volunteers contributes to our mission and our community by:
The Muncie PetSmart adoption center is our only physical location.

Sherry Wolfe grew up in Muncie and graduated from Muncie Central High School. Her family loved animals and always had dogs, cats, birds and fish for pets. Her education includes a BA in Management Studies, an M Ed in Montessori elementary education, and work toward a Doctorate in Public Health Education. She spent over 40 years as a career Montessori educator for children ages 2- 9. She has founded two Montessori schools, and been the Director of Education in Montessori schools in Illinois and Washington, D.C. She is a trained and experienced mediator, and restorative practice/restorative justice practitioner. She brought a peer mediation program to two elementary schools, training staff and students how to serve as conflict resolution leaders. Sherry began trapping, altering, recovering, vaccinating and feeding roaming cats in 2012 to help reduce the homeless cat population and increase their quality of life. She loves animals and has nearly always had cats and dogs. Her love for horses has been a little harder to satisfy. She currently has three cats, all rescued: Ogden, Moz and Mookie. Her Montessori classrooms had class pets such as birds (including chickens), rabbits, guinea pigs, frogs, fish, lizards, snakes, mice, gerbils, and hamsters. Sherry began volunteering with Action for Animals in September 2020 as a kitty care giver at PetSmart, during the Covid outbreak. By February of 2021 she joined the AFA Board of Directors both as the Secretary and the Volunteer Coordinator. She directs the volunteer team to care for the AFA rescued cats in the adoption center at Petsmart in Muncie, makes sure the cats are listed on Petfinder, contributes to fundraising events, keeps the adoption database up to date, helps steer the donor management program (including grant writing), and recently worked with a key volunteer for several months to upgrade the AFA website, among many other volunteer tasks for AFA. Her current mission is to help AFA grow as an organization, and to continue its valuable service to animals in Muncie and Delaware long into the future.

I've been a lifelong artist in various forms (drawing, watercolor, pet portraits, photography, cake decorator, digital artist) and have loved cats as long as I can remember. I first heard of Action for Animals when I adopted Mike and Mittens from PetSmart in 2015. I've TNR'd many backyard strays since then and am currently working on a graphic novel about a kitten named Squeak that showed up on my porch one day. I sell cat crafts at local craft shows and donate my art to help a cat rescue in Ukraine and a cat rescue in Morocco. My husband and I are photographers.
